The wood slats are made of furniture grade quality Ipe. Ipe is fire resistant and has a commercial Class A rating. Each wood slat is actually 5/8” thick and the entire tile with backing is 1.25” thick. The backing elevates the tile off the surface to allow for ventilation and drying.

Ipe is a very durable hardwood that is mold, mildew, fungi, termite, rot and decay resistant. It is commonly referred to as ironwood because of its incredible density. It is harder and more durable than Teak. It has a distinct fine olive brown grain. To maintain a new wood look it’s recommended to apply once or twice a year Cabot Australian Timber Oil.
