Julien De Smedt, William Ravn, and Wouter Dons, the founders of the Copenhagen-based firm Makers With Agendas (MWA), chose their company’s name with care. The moniker neatly encapsulates the blend of DIY culture and activism that informs their work.
“Their ethos is: Does it deserve to exist?” Ravn says. “The name says it all,” De Smedt agrees. “It’s the way we design. We want to make things and we start out with an agenda. We don’t believe in bringing out new stuff just for the sake of bringing it out. A new design should add something necessary to our world.”
Makers with agendas (MWA) presented its debut collection at the 2014 stockholm furniture & light fair. MWA, a collective established in 2013 by julien de smedt and william rvan, with the aim of engaging in the development, production and distribution of objects that explore new design typologies. the initial pieces all take into consideration the notion of flexibility, providing an offering of furniture and household items that can be adapted and applied to various situations.
