This Glasgow based studio produces wooden furniture products as well as bespoke pieces. Everything is made with a focus on long lasting design and modern craftsmanship. Fronted by accomplished woodworker Derek Welsh, each piece is handmade to order and hand finished with character and integrity.

From his Glasgow studio, woodworker Derek Welsh fashions craft-oriented modern furniture and bespoke interiors projects. At designjunction, a contemporary showcase at the London Design Festival, Welsh will exhibit a series of handmade pieces rendered in natural oak with laminate accents. “Graft is a new collection of modern utility pieces that are understated and confident in their simplicity,” says Welsh in a written statement. The range includes a desk, table, sideboard, low bench, and shelving. Let’s have a look.

Graft Sideboard: “Strong and stable, the Graft sideboard offers concealed and open storage, finished in soft tones of grey laminate and natural unfinished oak timber. The unit has two solid oak drawers with concealed drawer runners and two adjustable shelved compartments,” says Welsh.

Graft Boxes: “A freestanding piece of five individual boxes which stack together is perfect for small storage. Each box is divided at different depths to give an interesting appearance as well as access from either side.”

Graft Desk: “The Graft desksʼ understated appearance defies itʼs practical potential for use in a variety of environments. The effortless oak framework, with two concealed drawers, is balanced perfectly alongside the warmth and practicality of the uncluttered desk top linoleum surface,” says Welsh.”

Graft Bench: “A compact multi-functional piece that is both modest and confident in its appearance,” says Welsh of the oak piece dyed red with a water-based stain.

Graft Table: “The simple perfect proportions, clean lines and elegant curves of the Graft table are ideal for everyday use whether for dining, working or playing dominoes,” says Welsh.
