Working extensively across the disciplines of architecture and art direction, Los Angeles-based designer Alexander Purcell Rodrigues opened his own multi-disciplinary design studio in 2012. The studio’s diverse portfolio ranges from furniture design to interior architecture.

New launch: An aircraft grade aluminum chair built using new aluminum fabrication methodologies and featuring mathematically-generated ornamental patterns. Called the Cartesian chair, the design is named after the Cartesian coordinate system – the foundation on which CAD software is built – that allows shapes such as curves to be written as algebraic equations.

The simple silhouette of Purcell Rodrigues’s chair goes from function to art form. Using Neal Feay’s cutting edge aluminum fabrication methodologies that uses minimal waste and unique finishing techniques, couples with generative modeling tools and algorithm-based patterns makes this chair a pretty cool and innovative piece of home decor.

The Cartesian chair combines the best of modern design with evident practicality. The chair is stackable, flat packable and comfortable as well as being environmentally friendly as a result of its lean manufacturing process.

The Cartesian chair delivers form, function and fabrication in perfect equilibrium.

Available in numerous anodize colors either with or without ornamentation and upholstery. A solid wood leg version will also be available in either walnut or white oak.
