The Sparkling chair by Marcel Wanders for Magis is reminiscent of an old-school soda glass bottle in its playful shape and transparent green color. Though it is not glass the chair is constructed of, but rather plastic and air. Wanders presented his chair and the blow molding technique used to create it at Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, 2010. Not surprisingly, this same technique is used to manufacture water bottles. The Sparkling chair is molded from PET plastic, and the hollow spaces of the chair have been filled with high pressured air, in effort to strengthen the design and keep the plastic use to a minimum. The Gumby-like legs twist into the bottom of the seat shell. Plant your bottom, and voila- you are sitting on air. Total weight, about 1kg. Contact Magis for additional details and pricing.
