Philippe Starck studied at the Ecole Camondo in 1968 but is essentially an autodidact. In the seventies, he was mainly known as an interior designer. In 1979, he founded ‘Starck Product’ and became interested in architecture. In 1982, he decorated the private apartments of President Mitterand at the Elysée. He designed the famous ‘Costes’ chair in 1984 for the Cafe Costes in Paris. He became internationally renowned in the eighties as a furniture designer, interior designer and architect.
He designed furniture for Vitra, Driade, Baleri, Disform, Cassina, Alessi, Thomson, Idée…
